Revised Action Plan for dealing with the problems of Gregarious Flowering of Bamboos in North-East India

The gregarious flowering of muli bamboos (Melocanna baccifera) is expected to take place during 2005-07 in North-Eastern States of India.  A few other species are also expected to flower gregariously in the states of Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland.  The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) during November 2002 constituted a Steering Committee to prepare a detailed action plan for dealing with this problem with representatives from the state governments, concerned ministries and departments in the GOI, Planning Commission, industries and other stakeholders.  After a series of meetings and detailed discussions, the MoEF finalized the Action Plan on May 05, 2004.  The Action Plan has been further revised on July 20, 2005 after detailed discussions in the meeting of the Committee. The MOEF is the nodal ministry for reviewing the progress of implementation of Action Plan by the states.
